X-Men and X-men 2
Bryan Singer was born in New York City. He was adopted and grew up in a Jewish household in New Jersey. He is Jewish, and has said that his life experiences of growing up as a minority influenced his development of the X-Men movies. The X-men movies have strong Jewish themes including considering how to treat those people who are different. Magneto’s powers developed when the Germans took his parents from him because they were Jewish.
(The new director for X-men 3, Brett Ratner is also Jewish).
Superman Returns
In mid 2004, Singer was offered the chance to direct the new Superman film. He admired the goodness the character of superman. Superman was originally developed by two Jewish men: Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. When the two of them were still in high school, they were inspired by what was happening to the Jews in Europe in WWII and the desire for a hero.
John Safran
John Safran explains how to tell if you are Jewish:
• You wear a big fluffy hat
• You play clarinet in an Israeli klemzer band
• There are no Christmas trees or crosses in your house
• You don’t follow the Torah rules but once a year you go to Synagogue and hope that you will be forgiven
• You’re not sure what the answers are, you only read Yiddish.
Krusty the Clown
Krusty the clown (real name Herschel Krustofski) is a kids TV show host (on the Simpsons). He’s an all-round funnyman and a Jew. As a child, he would do anything for a chance to entertain (his father the Rabbi didn’t approve of this). He is also famous for selling many products.
