Where Did These Words Come From

Task:

From our study of Native Americans we learned that there are words that we use today that are from right here in America. We borrowed them from the Native Americans. We use them to name or describe things. You will be placed in small groups to research two questions each. Each question is related to a Native American word.

Activity Questions:

1.What is the name given to the cone shaped dwelling that the Native Americans lived in?
2. Name some of the vegetables that they grew.
3. What is the name given to the bushy tailed animal with black fur and white stripe down its back, and sprays a bad smelling liquid when it is scared?
4. Describe a moose.
5. What does a Totem Pole represent?
6. What is the name given to an oval nut with a smooth, thin shell?
7. Think about those questions as you research words that originate from our Natives Americans.
