                 PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

As a teacher, I believe each student has something unique and valuable to offer my classroom.  It will be a privilege and responsibility to meet the needs of each of my students.  There are many styles of learning and it is important for the teacher to not only recognize these, but to also teach to the multiple intelligences.  Every child deserves the opportunity to be taught with methods from which they learn best.
Education should be enjoyable, relevant, and meaningful to the students' lives.  I believe that active participation and hands-on learning are very effective ways to teach.  There are many ways to incorporate these such as with simple experiments, manipulatives for counting, and having students demonstrate material to others.  Cooperative learning is also a beneficial way to teach.  It fosters communication skills, problem solving, a time for reflection, and it builds community relations among the students.
Flexibility, organization, and humor are key elements in becoming a successful teacher.  Teaching is more than just reading, writing, and arithmetic.  It is the opportunity to teach students how to think and learn for themselves, and in the process become life-long learners.
Open-communication with students, fellow-educators, parents, and administrators are an essential part in providing the best educational environment to each student.
Above all else, teachers must remain enthusiastic about teaching and learning new information.  The most important role of a teacher would be to introduce children to wonderful learning opportunities that will inspire their love of learning.
