Highlights from the week ~
We got a bit soggy on Thursday when we went outside to read on our beach towels, but the sun decided to finally peek out!  I am proud to say that each child in my homeroom has earned an AR medal and was able to read with sunglasses and eat popsicles on the playground.  What an accomplishment!
In Math, the first graders have become masters at measuring to the closest inch and centimeter.  Put them to work on summer projects as “helpers”!
The firsties also took their final Spelling test of the year this week.  You're off the hook next week with no homework or spelling words.  Yipee!!

Volunteers
I would like to thank all the great volunteers who have planned parties, come in weekly to read AR with the students, sent in donations, etc.  The list is endless and I can't name everyone individually because there's not enough room on the page!  You make my “job” easier and bring a smile to the student's faces.  THANKS!!

FIELD DAY
Crosby's annual FIELD DAY will be May 24th!  The intermediate students will be outside from 8:30-11:30 and we'll get our turn in the afternoon from noon until 2:45.  Our class/team color is BLUE.  We will not be tie-dying shirts or buying blue shirts this year.  To save $$, please have your child wear as much BLUE as possible for field day.  Parent volunteers are creating blue hair ribbons for each girl and headbands for the boys so we can show our spirit!

Coming Up...
MATH – The first graders will be “Making Waves” with fun summer-themed Math problems. We will review numbers to 120, addition and subtraction, place value and geometry with an exciting “end-of-year” math game format!
ELA–  In reading, we will use our story map from The Borrowers and events from the movie “Arietty” to compare and contrast on a Venn diagram.
Science – We will form building teams and work with legos, spaghetti and marshmallows to learn more  about using materials to build in Science next week.

*The class has earned “Sidewalk Chalk Day” as a good behavior incentive. If you can send in sidewalk chalk for our afternoon in the sun next week, we could use the donation.  The first graders will use the chalk to design buildings and practice Math facts... we may even sneak in a little fun!!

* Water bottles can be sent in daily now that it's getting toasty again.  Hydration is very important for little bodies!
