Welcome to Building Trades
The Building Trades course serves to introduce students to the construction industry. Hands-on practice allows students the opportunity to become familiar with the proper use of hand tools, power tools and to learn the fundamental basic skills in carpentry, electrical wiring and plumbing. This course will provide students the opportunity to obtain entry-level job skills in the Building Trades field. Students will become familiar with basic construction and related safety standards. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to: frame flors and walls, cut and shape stock and fastening stock (for example: nails, screws, staples and other mechanical fasteners), determine materials needed for a project using a blueprint, install electrical wire switches and receptacles, learn about basic theory and electrical codes, and plumbing including copper and PVC pipe. The students will learn to install water distribution components, waste and soil pipes, shutoff valves, sinks and a water closet. Upon completion of this course students may seek certification through NOCTI.
