Important information for Parent:

Failed Tests-
Students are given the opportunity to re-take (NOT THE SAME EXACT TEST AS FIRST GIVEN) any test they fail. Before a student can re-take the test, he/she must come in for 1 to 2 after school or 3 to 4 directed study tutorials with a math teacher (they can go to any math teacher as along as the teacher contacts me about the tutorials).

Homework-
All homework assignments are graded on completion (100-complete, 80-over 50% complete, 60-under 50% complete, 0- no effort). I will accept late homework, with a 20-point deduction each day that the work is late. Each student has a copy of the Homework List for the semester. If your student does not, then he/she can find a copy in my Virtual Share Folder on Highland Springs High School's server (it can only be accessed on campus). If you want a copy sent to you, please email me your request.

Class Participation-
This is a semi-daily grade designed to motivate students. Each day the student begins the class with a 100 Class Participation grade. Points (in 10 point intervals) are deducted when the student misbehaves, refuses to begin, complete or attempt assignments, or disrupts class in anyway. If a student is sent to TOP, then the students receives a zero in class for that day.

Class Notes-
Students are required to take notes in a binder (not a noteboo k), not on their laptops. It is very important that students understand the material as it is being presented. Playing games, checking out websites, and listening to music are not accepted forms of laptop usage that is acceptable in Ms. Newman’s class. P l ease impress the importance of taking good, clear, and concise notes. However, if your student does not have good, clear, and concise notes to complete his/her homework, then I have Study Notes for most of the semester available to them in my Virtual S h ar e Folder. The students can download them to their laptop, so they will have access to the notes at home.
