1. Study for next week's verb test
2. Translate "Model Text" from today's listening activity. Use the jdic (second link below) online dictionary to look up words you don't know. If you can't type the word into the search box in Japanese, then you'll have to use a regular dictionary.

1. Study for verbs test. Know the English, Japanese, te-form, dictionary form of the group 1 verbs 1-40. You will also be expected to form the ~nakereba naranai form and nakutemo ii form of a few verbs.

2. If you will be out on the Exploratorium field trip Wed, be sure to watch the documentary that you will miss. The link is included on the assignment document that is now uploaded to aeries. Click on the plus sign next to the Kokoyakyu assignment. If you will be here on Wed., you will be watching the film in class, but you might want to get started on some of the other parts of the assignment. This is all due on Friday.

Sally said she tried, but couldn't get the assignment off of aeries. I know that it works on a mac, but maybe not a PC. So, I pasted the assignment below:

高校野球　　Kokoyakyu
Well, apparently the youtube clips are just two minutes long, so you can't watch the film that way. If you missed class today (Wed), come to tutorial ASAP on Friday to watch. I will also show it during 7th on Friday. The deadline for this assignment is extended to next Tue.

Ryan said the complete video is available for viewing on hulu, if that works for you.

You can still do sections 1 and 2 below without having seen the film.

Complete the following:

1. Read the background information about baseball in Japan and the two schools in the film on pg. 10-11 of the discussion guide on this link: http://www.pbs.org/pov/film-files/pov_kokoyakyu_guide_action_discussion_file_0.pdf

Answer the following questions (d & e can be answered in English):
a) 野球はいつ日本にきましたか。
b) 日本のプロ野球のリーグは何と何ですか。
c) 全部（ぜんぶ）でプロ野球のチームはいくつありますか。

d) What is Koshien and why is it important?

e) How are Chiben HS and Tennoji HS different?

2. Read the article about the concept of 和／わ or harmony in Japanese baseball:

Is the same kind of 和／わ／harmony reflected in the way baseball is played in the US? Explain why or why not?

3. Based on what you saw in the film, explain how Japanese baseball is culturally different from American baseball.

Assignment for next week:
There is a listening activity assignment that is due next Tuesday. Be sure to check the link before the end of the week to determine whether you can access the audio file from home or not. If you can't, you'll need to do the assignment during tutorial. Showing up next Tuesday and saying, "I couldn't get the file with my computer" will not be an acceptable excuse.
