Welcome Third Quarter 6th Graders 
Why teach nutrition?
*Good nutrition helps children grow, learn and do well in school.
*Well nourished children perform better in the classroom and on tests.
*Research shows that the knowledge and skills that children learn today will help
  them to make healthier food choices in their future.  

Overview
  Sixth Graders will attend one term (one quarter) everyother day, approximately twenty classes. They will explore and practice good healthly lifestyles with a focuse on nutrition and food safety. All you need for this class is a good attitude and a two pocket folder to store handouts, homework and recipes.

Week 2-3 Handling Food Safely and Kitchen Safety/ Measuring ( Gingersnaps-
              canola oil,  fresh ginger, canola oil and reducing the recipe)
         4-5 Food Pyramid, Making Better Choices, Serving sizes, Murders of
               Manners
         6-8 Calcium Counts, Breakfast quick bites, Vegetable Soup (fresh is best,
               frozen is cool, canned is canned---The darker the vegetable the richer
               in anti-oxidants and vitamins)
               Microwaves Quick Chicken Parm/ Caesar Salad /Baked Apples 

 
Third Quarter Overview:
  Welcome Back Eighth Graders! This year you will become a Consumer Reports reporter sharing your findings with your fellow classmates on TV. Or demonstrate how to make or do something using the TV as an educational tool.

      

TV Production Rubric: Individual Grades
(approximately 20 classes)
  28 Research on Health Topic/Story board/Script writing ( 7 Labs X 4 points)
  16 DVD Case Design
  16 Preproduction
  16 Camera/ Editing
  24   Final Presentation

Fourth Quarter:

Clothing Construction/ Pillows, Quillos, and a recycle project using a brochure format for an instruction manual.

STUDENT NEEDS:TWO POCKET FOLDER, WRITING UTENCIL, & A GREAT ATTITUDE
