Here is some basic information for students and their parents and/or guardians regarding this class. I understand that everyone absorbs knowledge differently and I intend to make Science an enjoyable class for everyone. Science is all around us from the skies to beneath our feet and around every corner. I hope that this class not only teaches the general concepts of Science, but also encourages everyone to be knowledgeable about our surroundings and develop an unquenchable thirst for knowledge! The students will copy daily agenda, which includes classwork, homework and any upcoming assignments from the board. I will initial the agenda and write any notes that pertain to the the student. I encourage you to check and sign the agenda daily. Grades for all 8th graders: Grades for all 6th graders: Assessments-60 Assessments-50 Homework and Classwork-20 Homework and Classwork-25 Participation and Labs-20 Participation and Labs-25 Tests Tests will be given after each Chapter Homework Each homework assignment(s) is a review of the sections in each Chapter. Two Science related news articles are assigned each nine weeks. The news articles are considered and graded as homework assignments. ANY type of SCIENCE related article/story is accepted. The information can be gathered from a newspaper, magazine, journal or the Internet. In EVERY assignment the following is needed: · Title · Where the information was retrieved · Date it was written · Author · 100-150 word written or typed paper expressing your opinion about the article, good or bad Quizzes A Unit quiz will be given after the completion of each Chapter Unit. Participation Here are some examples of how to participate during class · Labs · Being prepared with agenda and supplies daily · Answering and asking questions Every class had a Chapter 1 test this week.
