Birthdays
The children can bring in a book to donate to the class. It will be read in honor of the student, with a bookplate being placed inside the cover stating the child's name and birthday. Students also receive a crown to wear for the day, receive many letters from their classmates, get to be the special helper for the day and pick a book to keep for their own.

Show and Tell
The children are encouraged to bring in anything that relates to the topics we are studying in class. For the month of January, anything relating to the Solar System will be appropriate.

Conferences
There is one scheduled conference on November 11 or 12. After that, report cards will be sent home February 10, April 22 and June 18. Parents are encouraged to contact me at any time during the year if there are questions or concerns.

Homework
The children receive a home reader 2 nights a week. Encourage your child to read aloud to an adult and retell the story. There will occasionally be a math sheet or a writing assignment.

Special Events
There are none scheduled for January.
