33% Tests and Quizzes
34% Comprehensive Final for each quarter

How to calculate your grade on your own
1. Find the total number of points possible for each category
2. Add the total points earned for each category
3. Divide points earned by total points possible to get a percentage (.98=98%)
4. Add percentages for each category and divide by total number of categories

Participation, Homework &  Projects
Each student can earn up to 5 participation points per day or 25 points per full week. If he or she comes to class on time, is prepared for class, participates fully in classroom activities, and demonstrates a positive attitude will earn 3.5 points per day or 17.5 per full week (70%) because this behavior is expected of everyone.

Listed below are ways that a person can earn more points on a given day:
Taking a leadership role in class discussion or group work, volunteering, performing well on class tasks, any positive contribution to the class, completing and sharing something other than a routine assignment with the class (ie. performing a song or skit in spanish, creating spanish artwork, etc.)

Listed below are examples of how students can lose points:
You will lose your 3.5 points each time for:  Absences (excused and unexcused**), sleeping in class,  refusal to participate in class, late for class, forgetting materials
needed for class, distracting class from task due to negative attitude, horseplay, disrespect to others, not paying attention, talking without permission, swearing, etc.
* In order to be counted as on time for this class, each student is to be sitting
appropriately in his or her seat and quiet.
* Homework will be assigned on a regular basis.
* You have 5 days to make up, turn in work missed and turn in notes for time
missed** for being gone.
* Late homework assignments will have to be totally correct in order to get credit.
There will be a 10% deduction for each day homework is  late.
* If a student has an excused absence when an assignment is due, the
assignment will be due when the student returns to class.
* When a student knows in advance that he or she will be missing class (sporting
events, concerts, etc.) arrangements must be made with the instructor to get the
assignments for that day.  Students not doing so will get a 0 for the assignment.
** You will have 5 days to write a detailed list of what you missed in class while
you were absent in order to earn your participation points back for excused
absences.  Points lost due to unexcused absences cannot be earned back.  (It
is your responsibility as a student to find someone to take notes for
you when you are gone)

* Projects will be worth 175 pts.  Students can expect to have 1 major project per
quarter.

Tests and quizzes
Students can expect quizzes at any time (no warning may be given).  Tests will be given upon the completion of a chapter or unit.  Advance notice will be given by the instructor.  The final test will be a comprehensive test covering all the material covered during each quarter.
If a student misses a test he or she will have 5 school days to make up that test, when it is convenient for the instructor.  no tests can be made up after 5 days.

Leaving the classroom
Each student will need to be able to ask to leave the room in the foreign language being studied.  Be prepared to answer varios questions in the foreign language.

Extra Credit
Each student can earn extra credit points towards participation by completing an  approved project that is submitted by a typed proposal. (I will not accept any extra credit projects 3 weeks before the end of each quarter)

Culture Days
Culture days will be held on Thursdays during each quarter except the first week and on days class is not held.  The first Thursday of each quarter will be used to plan for the culture days.  Culture days cannot be duplicated during the school year.  No topic can be used more than once per quarter.Past culture days have included the following topics:  Speakers, Movies, Art, Crafts, Food, Drinks, Games, History, Careers,Current Events,  Taditions, Folklore, Holidays, Government, Dances, Inventions, Literature, Teenage Differences, Fairy Tales, Travel, and Castles.

Other important notes
You are dismissed by me, not the bell.
Be attentive whenever anyone else is speaking in class (this means no talking to others or interrupting someone when he or she is speaking).
Treat each other as you would like to be treated (no name calling or inappropriate remarks)

* If you have questions, ask.  If you need help, seek it.  I will do my best to help you learn.  I expect that you will be responsible and put forth the necessary effort required to learn this awesome language.
