ADVANCED MATH - TRIGONOMETRY COURSE EXPECTATIONS Mr. Bjerkness 1. Required Material a. Textbook b. Folder/binder c. Pencils and pens ( red, blue, black ) d. Loose-leaf paper and graph labels/paper e. Straightedge f. Graphing calculator ( TI-83 or TI-84 ) 2. Student Behavior a. Be seated and prepared to begin class promptly when the bell rings. b. If you are late, you must have your agenda signed by the teacher who detained you, and then get a pass from the Dean’s office. If you arrive after the bell without a pass then you are tardy. A detention will be issued after three tardies. c. No writing on desks. d. No touching of the windows or blinds. e. No using the phone, except for an emergency. f. Display proper respect towards fellow students. g. Know the language of mathematics: terminology, formulas, correct usage, and spellings. h. Be an active participant in class by either asking questions and/or volunteering answers. i. Keep an organized folder, which contains all work for the semester. 3. Class Routine a. Take a daily quiz on the last homework assignment. b. Discuss and correct the homework from the previous night. c. Introduction of new material, which includes an explanation and practice problems. d. Give the assignment for the next class period. e. Note: The order of the daily quiz and homework can be switched depending on the type of quiz being given. 4. Homework a. Each assignment must be labeled clearly at the top of the page with the date assigned, section, pages, and problem numbers. b. State the original problem, show the necessary work and draw the appropriate diagrams. c. All work must be done in pencil and when necessary on loose-leaf. d. Be neat, mistakes should be erased. e. Keep pace with the daily assignments to prevent falling behind, this includes reading the next section of the textbook. f. Late homework is not accepted for any credit. Homework must be completed before class begins. 5. Evaluation and Grades a. Quarter grades are based on points, the percentage is calculated by (points accumulated) / (points possible). b. Semester grades are calculated as follows: 40% 1st quarter, 40% 2nd quarter, and 20% final exam. c. Terminology: homework, worksheet, daily quiz, quiz, paper, class participation, project, test and final exam. d. Daily quizzes can occur after every homework assignment. e. There are two or three quizzes for each chapter. f. Tests usually occur at the conclusion of a chapter/unit or every other week. g. Note: Students earn their own grade based on their performance. 6. Attendance a. If you were here on the day that an assignment, test or quiz was announced then you are expected to be prepared to turn in the assignment or take the quiz or test on the day of your return. b. If you missed several days, you must make arrangements to take any missed quizzes, tests or labs on your own time. Work that is not made up in a timely fashion will be recorded as a zero. c. Notify me ahead of time when you know that you will be missing class for any pre-arranged activities. 7. Teacher Availability a. Ask for help if you do not understand. Seek help in the math lab. b.
