Welcome to the Computer and Keyboarding Cruise Liner. As your Captain of the Cruise Liner, I will provide you with project-based instruction that introduces you to the principles of business in the 21st century while refreshing your keyboarding skills. The curriculum will help you to use computers effectively in your life, while providing a connection of computer science and business concepts. This year I look forward to Passengers' activities and lessons will come in different forms; discussions, online activities, demonstrations, projects, assignments, etc. I expect each passenger to give 110% during their time on the Computer and Keyboarding Cruise Liner. When we dock at our different Ports of Call, passengers will participate in several different types of activities.
Apps Island:
Passengers will acquire knowledge and skills using MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point and Goanimate. Skills are demonstrated by completing assignments, creating and designing projects and presentations.
Computer Science Country: Passengers will be introduced to the basic computer components and learn about the impact of the Space Race on modern computers. Passengers will make some predictions about the future of computers andl collaborate, design and present a new computer to other passengers and the Captain. Passengers will learn how to write computer programs using block coding and they will create their very own 8 bit image.
Wanna Key Island: Passengers will utilize the "Typing Time" software to develop and enhance their keyboarding skills. They will develop keyboarding skills by touch with speed (Gross Words A Minute-GWAM) and accuracy. They will complete typing test or typing competitions weekly. Typing test are given based on GWAM goals. Students are encouraged to practice their skills at home to improve their speed and accuracy.
21st Century Island: Passengers will demonstrate employability skills such as working in a team, problem solving and organizational skills. They will develop and model employability skills such as Dress for Success.
Literacy in the Content Lagoon: Passengers will enhance reading in all curriculum areas. They will use research and technology to support writing. They will also use the writing the process to develop, revise and evaluate writing. Passengers will build vocabulary knowledge.
