Welcome 7th grade Recruits to Business Barracks. As your Commander of Business Barracks, I will provide you with project-based instruction that introduces you to the principles of business in the 21st century while refreshing your keyboarding skills. The curriculum will help you to use computers effectively in your life, while providing a connection of computer science and business concepts. This year I look forward to "Training Your Brains for Higher Order Thinking." In order to accomplish my objective, you will undergo three different levels of training (basic, intermediate and advance). Training will come in different forms; discussions, online activities, demonstrations, projects, assignments and collaborative groups. I expect each of you to give 110% during your nine week training course because "your output is determined by your input."
You will participate in the following trainings:
Computer Applications training:
Recruits will show mastery of computer application software that encompasses word processing, spreadsheet and desktop publishing. Skills will be demonstrated by creating projects. Recruits will design and create their own check using Microsoft Publisher. Recruits will create graphs and charts to display their typing test results from their keyboarding training. Recruits will utilize web base games and activities to learn vital information to prepare for periodic evaluations.
Business Foundations: Financial Literacy training:
Recruits will examine and apply the basics of economics and personal finance. Recruits will learn money skills they will need for life and money management basics. Recruits will take virtual field trips and complete at home training to reinforce knowledge. Recruits will apply their money management skills by engaging in a culminating project "Bank Day at the Commissary." VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Internet and Internet Safety training: Recruits will examine the professional, ethical, and safe issues involved in the use of the Internet.
Keyboarding and Ergonomics training: You will utilize the software "Typing Time and Microtype" to develop and enhance your keyboarding skills. You will develop speed and accuracy while learning proper keyboarding techniques. You will complete typing test and typing competitions twice a week. Some of you will master the typing skill through consistent practice. Mastery consists of 35 GWAM or higher with no more than 2 errors.
21st Century Skills: Recruits will demonstrate employability skills such as working in a team, problem solving and organizational skills.
Literacy in the Content: Students will enhance reading in all curriculum areas. Students will use research and technology to support writing. Students will use the writing the process to develop, revise and evaluate writing. Students will build vocabulary knowledge.
