Following are course overviews for French I, II, and III- Required supplies for all levels are pencil or pen, and notebook (spiral with pockets or binder) FRENCH I Course synopsis - In French I you will study basic French vocabulary and grammar and practice in various listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities. You will learn about daily life in France and other French-speaking countries. You will recognize the importance of French as an international language and the contributions made by French speakers to world literature, art, science, and technology. Strategies - To learn correct pronunciation, you will repeat new words and phrases after the teacher and listen to native speakers on CDs and videos. You will practice aloud with visual cues and do varied activities to improve speaking skills. DVD "vidéoscènes" accompanying each lesson will aid listening and comprehension. You will complete textbook, workbook, and other written exercises to reinforce vocabulary and grammar. Expectations - You are expected to be in class every day, on time, with your book, workbook, notebook, pen and pencil. Food and drink are not allowed in class. It is important to pay careful attention and to participate fully in speaking activities. You must practice aloud to learn French. If you are absent it is your responsibility to get notes from a classmate and other assignments from the teacher. Grading policy - Each grade you receive is based on 100 points. Graded classwork is recorded once, each quiz is recorded twice, each chapter test three times. Your notebook grade will count as a chapter test grade and will be checked every five to six weeks. Your nine-weeks grade will be the average of the total number of grades. *Note for parents - Students will always have a list of vocabulary and grammar rules in their notebook that they can be studying to prepare for quizzes and tests. Oral proficiency will be emphasized. You will learn more about daily life in France and other French-speaking countries. The importance of French as an international language and the contributions made by French speakers to world literature, art, science, and technology will be discussed. Strategies - To learn correct pronunciation, you will repeat new words and phrases after the teacher and listen to native speakers on CDs and video. You will practice with visual cues (flashcards, pictures) and do varied activities to improve speaking skills. Videos accompanying each lesson will aid listening and comprehension. You will complete workbook, text, and other written exercises to reinforce vocabulary and grammar. Expectations - You are expected to be in class every day, on time (in your seat before the tardy bell), with your book, notebook, workbook, pen or pencil. It is important to pay careful attention and to participate fully in speaking activities. In addition, the class will read and study the novel Le Petit Prince. You will learn more about daily life in French-speaking countries, and the importance of French as an international language. The contributions made by French speakers to world literature, art, science, and technology will also be addressed. Strategies - To learn correct pronunciation, you will repeat new words and phrases after the teacher and listen to native speakers on CDs and video. You will practice with visual clues (flashchards, pictures) and do varied activities to improve speaking skills. Videos accompanying lessons will aid listening comprehension. You will complete workbook, text, and other written exercises to reinforce vocabulary and grammar. Expectations - You are expected to be in class every day, on time (in your seat before the tardy bell), with your book, notebook, pen or pencil.
