Welcome to Success Math!

Congratulations !!! You've made it to middle school! Not only that, but to PIZITZ Middle School! Even though we are under construction, I'm very excited about this year. and our school is going to be better than ever when it's all done.

I'm so happy you are in my math class. We are going to work hard and learn a lot this year and hopefully have fun doing it!

There will be many things required of you this year, and you will have to do your part to be successful in this class, and together we are all going to be successful!

I like to say that learning to do math is like learning to ride a bike: you can watch it being done all day long, but until you actually try it yourself, you will never learn how to do it. In other words, math is not a spectator sport!
Let's have a great year in POSITIVE ZONE!

Classroom Expectations
1. Be Respectful: show respect for other people, their property, and yourself.
2. Be Prepared: bring all necessary materials to class.
3. Be on time: have a sharpened pencil and be in your seat ready to begin when the bell rings.
Students are rewarded with an "A" slip for meeting and exceeding classroom expectations. Students are recognized for exemplary attitude, conduct, willingness, and positive attitude, as well as other efforts to make their experience here at Pizitz positive, healthy, and good. After receiving 3 "A" slips, a student is recognized with a certificate of achievement. Earn them PROUDLY!

Recommended Materials for Class
Pencils, Red ink pen, Pocket Folder, 2 Math Practice Books, Spiral Graph notebook
Math text books are to be kept at home. We will use a class set during school hours.
Absences and Make-up Work
Please refer to the student handbook on absences and make-up work. As a rule, students are given 2 days to make up work for each excused absence.

Tests and Homework
Test days are Mondays and Wednesdays. Chapter and cumulative tests count 60% of the total average for the nine weeks. Each test has 100 possible points. A practice test is given and reviewed before each test allowing students to opportunity to ask questions about concepts they may be unsure of. The practice test becomes a study guide students can take home.
Homework counts 40% of the total average each nine weeks and is checked daily. Expect homework most days. Students should head the page correctly, circle answers, and show all work. Homework quizzes are usually given weekly. They are 50 points quizzes and are part of the homework grade.

Advanced Skills and Applications Test - Mon., April 13th

Pre-Algebra Prognosis Test - Tues., April 14th

Teachers will use the results along with three other criteria to recommend math placement for next year. This month letter will be mailed to you with all of your child's information. A meeting for parents is scheduled for April 30th at 6pm to answer any questions you might have. You will then be asked to return the placement for indicating your decision.
