Journal Response to "Kryptonite" by Three Doors Down

There are a couple things I noticed about this song.  The big thing is that there's this extended metaphor about Superman running through the song.  The speaker talks about being Superman and alludes to the other person being like kryptonite.  Kryptonite was the substance that made Superman vulnerable so I'm assuming that the speaker feels like this person he's talking to makes him vulnerable.  I can't really tell though exactly what the problem between them has been.  The chorus is "If I go crazy will you still call me Superman."  Is the speaker literally going crazy?  Or just feeling like things are getting out of control? Actually, now that I look at it again, he's not saying that the other person is the kryptonite.  Maybe the kryptonite is within himself?  He's making himself weak and vulnerable?  That concept reminds me of a quote I heard once:  "No one can ruin you life except yourself."  Maybe that's kind of what the song is about?  People don't make you crazy, you make yourself crazy.
