poetryparties

A poetry party is a celebration! It is an opportunity for you to share a talent you have with the class through poetry.

You will need to memorize the poem assigned, recite it to the class, and make a short (2 or 3 min) creative presentation of the poem. You may choose to do one of the following presentations:

SINGING - Sing the words of the poem. (You may choose to do this on tape if you prefer)
DANCING - Do a dance to the poem.
IMPERSONATION/COMEDY - Perform the poem as a famous person. (impersonation)
PUPPETRY - Perform the poem as a puppet show.
RAP - Perform the poem as a rap.
CHEERING - Perform the poem as a cheer.
MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS - Write music inspired by the poem and play an instrument. (You may do this on tape if you prefer)
VIDEOGRAPHY - Make a video presentation and present it to the class.
ART - Make a poster (drawing, painting, or diarama) to illustrate the poem to share with the class (no larger than 11 X 14)
RESEARCH - Choose some part of Ithe poem to research & share information with the class. (Ex: Trees - You could do some research on the kinds of trees in your yard and share the information with the class)
RESEARCH - Learn about the poet and share the information as a report to the class.
ACTING - Dress as the poet (or as something from the poem- Ex: tree, leaf) and tell about yourself
FOREIGN LANGUAGE - Say the poem in a foreign language (or sign language-- or make a poster of key words)
SHOW AND TELL - Maybe you have something to show us that is in some way related to the poem. (Talk to me about this one if you have questions.)

If you have another idea other than the ones above-- ask. The most important thing is to have a great time with poetry and to share with your classmates some talent that you have. As long as you learn the poem and make an effort to share with the class-- you will receive an A.

Remember-- this is YOUR work. Do not expect your parents to do it for you. We want to see what YOU can do.

Our first poem will be Trees by Joyce Kilmer. See the link below for a copy of the poem.
