A note to Builders Club Members
What a fantastic year for the Builders Club! Thank you! You have really made a difference on the campus. We really got the club rolling this year and I know it will continue to be a shaping force. Rising 7th and 8th graders: please remember to come back next year and help make Builders Club become even greater! Rising High School Freshmen: Definitely check out the Key Club! You are such wonderful young leaders. Rising 6th graders and other potential new club members: Remember to check out the club in the fall!
You are wonderful young people and I wish you great success in the future.

Family Fun Day
Family Fun Day was a huge success. Everyone enjoyed the chicken biscuits and, even with the light turnout, the Brookland Blitz 1K Race may well turn into a Fun Day tradition that grows each year! Club members had a blast as well!
Fall 2006 Food Drive netted over 1500 items! This food will be distributed to 20 families, enhancing the holiday tables and filling the pantries as well. Thanks to the students and staff of BMS for the generous donations and to the Builders Club members who provided a combined total of 40 hours collecting and sorting food on Friday afternoon!

Red Ribbon Week Announcement during halftime
We're having fun, getting projects done, and making a huge difference on campus! Great job this week on Red Ribbon Week: building the "wall" in the office, the halftime announcement at the game, supporting the Red activities each day, creating entries for the Red written expression contest, and dressing Red! It was really terrific to hear Heather H. read her entry in the written expressions contest. 23 members stayed for the game and the halftime announcement was super. Let's get a head count of how many members wore red, entered the written expressions contest, and participated in any way. Great job prepping for the food drive. This project gears up full swing very soon...

Sponsorship
Builders Club is sponsored by Kiwanis International, a nonreligious, nonpolitical, worldwide organization of business professional men and women dedicated to community service. Kiwanis members recognize that young people today want to take an active role in solving problems and meeting needs of the world around them--whether that world is as small as a classroom or as large as a city.
Brookland's Builders Club is sponsored by the North Richmond Kiwanas Club.
Goal
The goal of Builders Club is to develop leadership qualities in young people through experiences in volunteer community service. Builders Club provides a way to form sound personal values based on experiences in meaningful community service activities.
Builders Club members learn by doing. They learn organization, teamwork, and leadership. Most importantly, they learn that concerned individuals working together can make a difference.
As the motto "We Build" indicates, Builders Club is for young people who want to take positive, constructive action to build a better world for themselves and others. Builders Club members experience the thrill of accomplishment and the satisfaction of knowing their efforts make a difference for those they help.
Character Counts! Members are expected to maintain an overall average of a "B" with a "C" or higher average in all core academic classes. Members are expected to behave as leaders in our school community. In-school and out-of-school suspensions will be grounds for suspension or termination of club membership.
Brookland's Builders Club 2005-2006 Projects
Brookland's Builders Club co-sponsored a Fall Food Drive with the Community Service Club to provide food for Thanksgiving for Brookland families. 700 canned and dry food products were collected through Study Skills and Academic Wheel classes. With the help of a contribution from North Richmond Kiwanas Club, the club purchased 25 turkeys enhancing holiday meals.
In December, the club assembled goodie bags for our custodial and maintenance staff as a thank you for their contribution to our school.
The club has an ongoing project to recycle cell phones. It's good for the environment and raises money for our school.
Please donate discarded Cell Phones by turning them into the school office for the Builders Club (attention Mrs. Poole).
