UNIT 5-DIVISION & REUNION-PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Photography of the Civil War
OBJECTIVE: (what you are doing and why):
* Use the World Wide Web to locate information and images from the American Civil War,
* Use information gathered to compose letters home,
* Construct either a Visual Timeline or a Map from information and images gathered.
PROCEDURE:
1. EVERYONE MUST:
A.) Use the World Wide Web Sites that I have notated to research information and locate pictures of the Civil War. Also, you must find two more sites on your own that supply additional pictures and/or information for your finished project. ALL 6 SITES MUST BE NOTATED at the end of your project. Use the information you have learned to compose two "Dear Home" letters. One letter will be to your family, one to a trusted friend. Your topics should be about your feelings about fighting against your own countrymen and your life on the battlefield. (Remember: the tone of each letter will probably be different.) You can include pictures taken from the web if desired.
2. Secondly, EVERYONE MUST CHOOSE ONE of the following:
a.) Construct a Visual Time Line of one year of the Civil War by using pictures from WWW research. You must also note any important events and battles of that year on your Time Line.
b.) Draw a map of the United States and the Confederate States of America during one year of the Civil War. Include on your map any images found from your WWW research and note any important events and battles of that year. Be sure to create a key for any symbols used.
ASSESSING YOUR WORK:
a.) Your letters will be graded according to our Creative Writng Rubric. Your maps and Timelines will be graded according to our Rubrics used in class for these items. Specifically, be sure to include on your Time Line: consistency and accuracy, all increments are marked properly, all items are in proper sequence, it is visually remarkable, clear, uncluttered, and legible. Your maps must have a corresponding key depicting all symbols used, good use of color, labels of events and battles, arrows, scale, and major geographical features labeled.
