UNIT PROJECTS AND WWW SITES FOR UNITS 8 & 9 CONTINUED (See below): UNIT 8: PROSPERITY, DEPRESSION, AND WAR (Chapters 25, 26, 27) 1919-1945- From Selling Apples to Waging War Everyone must complete: 1. Write a memorandum to the President of the United States during the Depression, the Dust Bowl, or during World War II stating a summary of the action or policy recommendation that you feel is necessary. (Follow format described in formal project outline), 2. Choose one of the following: Write a haiku poem from the perspective of a Japanese-American interned in the camps during World War II, or find recipes on the Internet that date back to the Depression (Depression Doughnuts for example), make the recipe and then bring your finished product into class for all to sample!
UNIT 9: THE NATION TODAY AND TOMORROW (Chapters 28, 29, 30) 1945-Present- Civil Rights to Current Issues Everyone must complete: 1. Write an Editorial for a newspaper that clearly states your opinion on the issue of Civil Rights, Segregation, or Martin Luther King, Jr. and his "cause". (See formal project outline for details), 2. Choose one of the following: Create a eulogy for a historical hero of this time period. (Some examples are Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy, a soldier in the Vietnam War, a woman fighting for equal rights, etc.), or develop a debate forum based on a current issue of today stating clearly both sides of the issue. (Some examples are gun control, youth violence, environmental concerns, Internet Use by Children, Political Parties, Etc.)
