French Regions Project
Expectations and Guidelines
This project will produce three outcomes:
1. A six-paragraph essay (minimum accepted!)
2. An oral report of 5-10 minutes
3. Visuals:
A. A poster on standard poster board, including a hand-drawn map of the province.
B. Locate on the map items mentioned in the report.
C. A smaller map which locates the province in France.
D. Large photos or drawings illustrating characteristics of the area:
music, food samples, authentic or original art or craft work
of the region, and other promotional material.
Deadlines
First note-card check: ________ 10 pts.
Second note-card check and Bibliography: ______ 10 pts.
Rough draft _______ (ON TIME / ON TARGET) 30 pts.
Written Report Due _______ Oral Reports will begin on the same day and continue.
Evaluation
Since you will have almost the whole quarter to work on this, the project is expected to be EXCELLENT. It will be worth 150 points:
Food - 25
From your region, background explained, recipe provided
Visual - 25
Integration wi th the topic, neatness, artistic effects. (Includes name of province en français, simple hand-drawn map, large pictures showing the most representative aspects of the region.)
Oral - 50
25 - Thoroughness, effort, (pronunciation)
25 - Organization, originality, delivery DO NOT READ (You will be stopped, and asked to sit down if you do = 0).
Written* - 50
Minimum of six paragraphs: Style, mechanics, vivid language, etc. number of facts, interest level, thoroughness. (Some provinces are larger = report will be longer.
Topic Sentence:
"When you visit France and need to understand the people and culture of the country, be sure to visit . . . because . . .
The "because" will form the majority of your report. Each of the next four paragraphs will support one of the reasons you give. The conclusion will summarize why a person would want to visit the area.
The FACTS, just the FACTS!!! The more information you pack into your essay WITHOUT boring the reader, the better. Focus on aspects YOU find interesting and important. Include:
Customs, holidays, food, music, art, famous people and why famous, unusual, or typical geographic features, LANGUAGE (very important, as each region has a distinct dialect), and history. (Tell the stories in your own words)
BIBLIOGRAPH Y - WORKS CITED
You must have a complete bibliography of the sources you use. For any direct quotes, use either end notes or foot notes.
YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST:
2 different encyclopedias (only 1 can be internet/CD)
3 books, magazine or newspaper articles or tourist brochures
