Words Give you Power=THINK, COMMUNICATE, AND LEARN.
Etymology is the word origin or root. Ex: Philology-comes from the Greek words philos which means loving & Logos means
words. PHILOLOGY (Fil-ol-o-jee) loving words.
A skill in figuring out unfamiliar words is to use word parts. There are three types of word parts: prefixes, roots, and suffixes. Prefixes are added at the beginning of
a word to change its meaning. Ex: revoke means to send something back. Suffixes are added at the end of a word to change its meaning or its part of speech. Ex: less which means without. Useless means without use.Roots form the basis of words. the root Dict can be used with different prefixes to form many words. Ex Predict, contradict,indict.
Dict means speech or word.

dictionaries at the end of the lesson.

The etymology for expire says that the word comes from the Latin word parts ex(meaning out)and spirare (meaning to breathe)
If you know that spir means to breathe you will have an important clue to an entire word family.
1. expire- end, die (breathe out)
2. conspiracy- plot (breathe together)

Find the root for each word and then define the word.
