Welcome to Saint Viator's Religion Department. The faculty of the Religion Department are committed Catholic educators teaching the Gospel message and Catholic values to our students. We consider it an honor to not only teach Saint Viator students about our Catholic faith but to accompany them on their faith journey. This year, Mr. Michael Tubridy joins our department and is teaching freshmen and sophomores. Students in the Saint Viator Religion program will 1. be taught Catholic interpretation of scripture in order to integrate the Word into their lives. 2. study the Seven Sacraments to enable them to participate fully in the life of the Catholic Church. 3. have opportunities for Catholic prayer and worship that enhance their spiritual development. 4. be challenged to accept their role as leaders in the Catholic Church both now and in the future. 5. be taught to recognize intolerance and to value the human dignity of all peoples. 6. be made aware of their responsibility as Catholics to respond to all in a Christ-like manner. 7. be taught to recognize the effects of moral and ethical behaviors and the importance of making choices rooted in Gospel values and the teachings of the Catholic Church. Some information that might be helpful. 1. The Religion Department is not responsible for the required student service program. For information concerning service please contact Ms. Betsy Fons, Director of Service, in Campus Ministry, ext 268. 2. The Religion Department does not give extra credit assignments. Students are provided the opportunity to earn bonus points on tests, quizzes or occasionally on homework assignments. We believe that if students complete work assigned there is no need for extra credit. 3. Most members of the Religion Department use the testing center to facilitate make-up work from excused absences. Students are expected to make-up tests and quizzes during a free period or before or after school with Mrs. Lanus. Upon return to school, students and their teacher will select an appropriate time for the make-up. Students are expected to take the test or quiz at the time chosen or they may face a penalty. 4. Senior exemption policy: Seniors may be exempt from the second semester final exam if they have a cumulative average of 90% or above for the second semester. 5. To uphold Saint Viator's academic integrity, teachers in the Religion department do not return test and quizzes until all students have completed that requirement. However, students may see tests and quizzes when the teacher has them corrected. Students need to set up a specific time with their teacher.
