CP English 11 Mrs. Frame 2005/2006 Classroom Guidelines: Mutual respect will be given between students and teacher. Students are to remain seated unless granted permission to move about the classroom. Students are to talk only when called upon or participating in group work. Students having questions or comments should raise their hands and wait for the teacher to call on them. Students are to bring all requested materials to class. A pencil, pen, paper, textbook, portfolio, school agenda, and silent reading book are to be brought each day. At their own risk, students may use the storage area in the rear of the room for storing their materials. The Tri-Valley High School Handbook rules will be followed at all times. Students are permitted four tardies total for the school year. Tardies in excess of four will result in detention(s) and/or Saturday school(s). There will be no classroom “sign-out” privileges. Students experiencing an emergency must use one of their four free “tardies.” Students may receive verbal warnings for first offenses in classroom disruptions and lack of materials. Second offenses shall result in disciplinary action. Students are not permitted to “decorate” any classroom assignments, including logs, book covers, and portfolios. “Decoration” includes, but is not limited to drawing, illustration, logos, friends’ names, names of favorite bands, names of favorite teams, “I love...” statements, etc. Papers with superfluous doodling will not be accepted for grading. Grading Policy Units will have a unit log, vocabulary lists, test, and/or project worth 100 pts each, unless otherwise noted. Units range from three to six weeks in length. Each quarter, or semester, will have a quarter, or semester, project requirement worth 100 points. Homework assignments and quizzes will range in point value. Point value for assignments will be noted in advance. Grades will be averaged by dividing the total number of points earned by the total number of points possible. Extra credit opportunities will be offered throughout the year. No extra credit will be given on an individual basis. Students are to meet classroom expectations as assigned. The school scale will be used for letter grade assignments, unless otherwise noted. Certain projects and exams/quizzes will require a different scale. When applicable, students will be notified of a grading scale change. Portfolio Expectations Portfolios should remain in the classroom storage area throughout the year. Students concerned about theft of their folder, however, are welcome to carry it with them. Parents/guardians should review the portfolio approximately once every eight weeks. Only those portfolios signed by parents/guardians will be accepted for grading. Forged portfolio signatures result in a grade of zero points on the folder, forfeiture of extra credit privileges for the entire quarter, and disciplinary action. Repeated offenses earn additional point deductions and additional detentions and/or Saturday School. All portfolio enclosures should be kept current. All items required by the teacher will remain in the portfolio for the entire school year. Students should have their portfolio with them at their desk when class begins. Portfolios are not returned to the storage location until the end of the class period. Discipline Guidelines Students are expected to follow all classroom guidelines as explained on this handout. This classroom strives to be a productive, safe, and respectful place. When student behavior is a hindrance to those goals, it will be reprimanded. As noted earlier, first offenses receive warnings. Second offenses receive detention and/or office referral. Disciplinary action in this classroom may take many forms. The severity and frequency of the behavior will determine the disciplinary outcome. Disciplinary action may include, but is not limited to: conferences (during or after school), parent notification of behavioral concern, behavioral contracts, office referral, school intervention, and school detention. Once a discipline problem has been turned over to the school office, additional measures may be taken. Students caught cheating, or providing false or plagiarized information on assignments, will receive a score of zero on that assignment and will forfeit all extra credit privileges for that quarter. An office referral and additional disciplinary action may also be assigned depending on the severity of the situation. Please feel free to communicate with me if you have any concerns or questions about this course. I appreciate your interest and welcome your comments. Let’s have a great year!
