Thank you for logging on to our classroom website! Be sure to check here
weekly to keep up to date on all the first grade news.
We are rolling March in with lots of fun activities. Put on your running shoes to keep up with First Grade!
MONDAY
Don’t forget today is a student holiday. See you tomorrow!
TUESDAY
We are on Unit 20 in spelling, watch us spell! We are learning to spell lots
of words with oo this week. Keep practicing with us at home on our 70
phonograms, we are really getting good! (A way to help your child practice
for our phonics dictation test is to say only the sounds that a phonogram
makes and have them write down that phonogram without looking at the
letters. That is what we do on Friday. For example, you might say /k/ /s/
and have your child write the phonogram ‘c’ and not show them the letter.)
We are reading the story Shrinking Mouse in our basal reader this week.
Don’t forget to read your take home reader tonight and play your First Spark games!
HOMEWORK: Take Home Reader "Debbie’s Good Night Pals".
WEDNESDAY
This week in math we are learning more about fact families. We will be relating fact families to a bear family to help us see how all the family members can stick together. Keep playing
those math games with us at home, that really strengthens our math skills.
HOMEWORK: Fast Facts and our Math Workbook page P129 –P130.
(Time us while we complete the short math sheet and write our time at the
bottom, our goal is to complete the quiz in two minutes.)
THURSDAY
This week we are talking about George Washington Carver and his influence on the peanut world we know today. Don’t forget we have our Spelling Test tomorrow. HOMEWORK:
Spelling Book page 22-23.
FRIDAY
Fun Friday is here. This week we learned about adding ing onto a word and also talked about synonyms. Don’t forget to play the First Spark games this next week with your child. Have a great
weekend and I can’t wait to see you on Monday! HOMEWORK: Book of
Poems.
Each week we will include a secret code word at the end of our message. If
you come in and whisper the secret code in my ear without telling anyone else
you will receive a special treat. This week's code is "Peanut Patty"
We want to thank all first grade parents for their continued help at home!
There are over twenty reasons that we come to school everyday, and they are
the smiling faces that we see in the classroom! We just want to send a
reminder that boys and girls in all grades are counted tardy if they enter
the classroom after the 8:20 tardy bell. Remind your kiddo to go
straight to class when the 8:10 bell rings. If they are in the gym or
library they need to come to class when the bell rings so they will not be
counted tardy.
First grade is such a milestone in your child's education and I am very
excited to work with you and your child during this time. If you ever have
any questions please don't hesitate to call!
