Classroom Discipline
The Rights and Responsibilities of Room 211 and 212

Rights: You have the right to…

1) learn and get an education.
2) to be a respected member of this classroom community.
3) to feel comfortable and safe within this classroom community.

Responsibilities: You have a responsibility to…
1) be ready to learn, bring all your materials, and to give your best effort each and every day.
2) to respect this classroom and school and all that it contains.
3) to follow all of the procedures of this classroom as well as the rules of conduct set forth by the Euclid Board of Education.

Positive Reinforcement (Privileges)

We firmly believe that students need to have their positive behavior reinforced. When students are adhering to the rights and responsibilities of the classroom and school community, then they need to be recognized for that. Some examples are:
1) Praise
2) Positive notes or phone calls
3) “Student of the Week” privileges
4) Extra free time
5) Movie or other fun activity
6) Extra help time (for students who love to do classroom jobs).
7) Extra computer time

Daily Discipline - Strikes are given for inappropriate behavior.

***It is also our strong belief that students who do not adhere to the rights and responsibilities not only hurt themselves, but also interfere with other students’ learning. As stated in the opening letter, We are strict about rules and firm, but fair about consequences because the classroom is for learning above all else.

The following describes not only the consequences for making poor choices about the rules, but also the privileges for those who make good choices. The students are on a three strike policy. The third strike in a day will result in a consequence.***
1) First strike/foul - Warning
2) Second strike/foul - Quick conference
3) Third strike/foul - Consequence

*** Strikes are given for:
1) Disrupting class at inappropriate times.
2) Not following directions when it comes to classroom and hallway procedures.
3) Not using class time for working on school-related assignments.
4) Interfering with other students’ learning.

Consequences
(become more severe as the behavior problem increases)
1) Warning
2) Conference with student
3) Conference with Reflection slip
4) Removal from the group/Time-out/loss of privileges
5) phone call or note home to parent
6) Lunch detention
7) Referral to the Principal

Monthly Discipline
1) The parent will be notified in writing or by phone if the child receives more than one consequence in a month’s time.
2) A student can receive no more than three consequences in a single month. If the child is about to receive his/her third consequence within a month, they will be sent to the principal with a referral and the principal will decide on the consequence.
3) The child’s slate is clean after the end of the month regardless of the amount of days in that month.

***Respect Clause*** Any student who shows disrespect toward us or to another student in terms of insults, taking of another’s personal property, etc. will be given an immediate consequence.

***Severe Clause*** Any student will be sent directly to the principal for a flagrant rule violation(for example—fighting). A student may also be removed from the room immediately if his/her actions become a safety problem.
