Dear Student and Parent:
I have outlined below a suggested strategy for tackling the Science Big 8 Review in preparation for the NYS Science assessment test that will be administered this June. Part I is an hour long lab practical which will be administered during the week of May 20th. Part II is a written assessment consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions and will be administered on June 20th.
The review book you have purchased is designed to help you prepare for the test. It is a comprehensive review of all material from grades 5 through 8. I have put together a proposed schedule for your review, however, it is up to each student to commit to spending time at home on this task. The first thing you should do is to familiarize yourself with the content and the format of the book. I suggest that you tab the Glossary and the Key Idea Review tests(there are 14). Each week, complete one of the review tests. You may want to review the material provided before you take the test. On the last class day each week I will provide the answer key for the scheduled review, which you can use to selfcorrect. Some of the more difficult topics will be reviewed in class prior to the test.
I will also schedule activity periods during which students can stay to work on the books. It is also suggested that students bring the book to school with them to use during tutorial time.
