Works Cited

Your Works Cited page will be the last page in your paper. It will be a separate page or pages.

The list of Works Cited includes only the references to material that you actually cited in the text of your paper.

Example: In preparing your paper you read 10 articles. In your paper, you cite 6 of these articles. Only those 6 articles that you actually cited in the text of your paper will be listed in your Works Cited. The other 4 articles that you read for background information or that you decided not to include in your paper will not be listed.

The list of Works Cited is alphabetical by the last name of author or the first important word in the title if there is no author listed.

The entries in your list should be formatted using a hanging indent. This will use the regular page margin for the first line and indent any subsequent lines below for each individual entry.

To create a hanging indent, highlight the works cited entries. Click on Format on the menu bar at the top of the page. Click on paragraph. In the box below Special near the word Indentation, choose Hanging.

Be careful about capitalization and punctuation.
