Lesson 6: Tables

Here are some exercises that will help with the content in this lesson. The first activity will help with the terminology in the lesson. The quiz activities, are sets of questions for you to find the answers as you read through the lesson.

Discussions for Tables This lesson introduces you to working with tables. In this lesson you will learn how to insert tables and configure them to organize data on your Web page. You will become familiar with the propper uses of the attributes associated with tables and the differences between tables coded using HTML 4.01 and XHTML 1.0. Consider the following as you work through this lesson and prepare to discuss in class:

1) Why do you use tables?
2) What are the various parts of a table?
3) How can you control the look and feel of a table?
4) What are the differences in using tables with XHTML 1.0 and HTML?

Research: Use your text material and the Internet to research and prepare to discuss the following:

Tables used to be a way to structure the entire Web page. This is not the recommended way to use tables anymore. What should you do instead? Look at some of your favorite sites. How are they structured? Do any sites that you look at frequently use tables for structure?

Code your personal page. Continue working with the page you created in the previous lessons by implementing at least one table containing data on your page.
