This lesson takes a closer look at using graphics in a Web site. This lesson introduces the concepts of using images for image maps and navigation. You will be introduced to the various graphic types ways to implement them. Consider the following as you work through this lesson and prepare to discuss in class:
1) What is the difference between vector and bitmap images?
2) What is an image map? How do you create an image map?
3) What is meant by image transparency?
4) What image interlacing? Which is faster interlacing or non-interlaced images?
5) What is SVG?

Use your text material and the Internet to research and prepare to discuss the following:
Have you ever created an image map? After working through the labs in this lesson what is your opinion of manually configuring image maps? Can you find some tools on the Internet that will create image maps for you to incorporate into a Web site? If you find some are they freeware or commercial products? What is the cost? Would this be a justifiable expense for you as a Web designer? If you were to use an application for creating image maps, do you think it is important to know how to manually create or edit an image map?
