THIS WEEK IN MATH

We will start the last unit of the year with Unit 12/Patterns, Functions and Algebra on Monday. We will review concepts, ideas, and generalizations from Units #1 - 11 in preparation for our SOL tests. TEST ALERT! Please use the study guide to review math skills taught during the year. Focus on skills you're not thoroughly confident with and ask questions in class. We will be completing various chapter review worksheets from the math workbook. REMEMBER - Refer to your math notebook for explanation of math functions and processes.

RACCOON MATH

WE WILL NOT BE COMPLETING RACCOON MATH FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR! THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK!

Students will be assigned a "Raccoon Math" on Mondays to be completed by that Friday. This worksheet will be completed as homework and morning work and is a basic skills curriculum; discussing addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and rechecking concepts. We will continually review previously taught mathematical skills.

THIS WEEK IN WRITING/GRAMMAR

WRITING

We will be continuing our Poetry Unit this week. The teacher will target a specific poetic skill and teach the concepts through hands-on activites, read alouds, discussions, and worksheets. The students will be required to write 2 poems for every poetic skill taught. We will continue discussing and identifying the five stages of the writing process and peer editing and revising. We will also continue discussing effective introductions, the body, and conclusions using our Writer's Notebook. We will be adding new facts, details, and explanatory pages to our Writer's Notebooks for the entire year.

GRAMMAR

Students will be starting Pattern 3 Sentences this week by completing Group 1 Sentences (Linking Verb (L-T) and Indirect Object (DO). We will continue discussing subject nouns (SN), verbs (V), adjectives (ADJ), adverbs (ADV), verb transitive (VT), direct objects (DO), prepositions (P), object of the prepositions (P), predicates and complete subject, interjections (interj) and conjunctions (conj) and adverb exceptions. In addition, we will identify common and proper nouns and parts of speech in isolation.

The students are allowed to use the Definition and Reference Pages located in the back of their Writer’s Notebook and the student textbook. We will be learning about and how to use Free Touch Typing. I will introduce, discuss, explain, and model exactly what the students are supposed to complete on the computer program.
