Manatees
The manatee is a large, friendly aquatic mammal that is listed as "Endangered" under federal law. Many manatee deaths are human related. Click on the links below to find out more about these gentle giants and ways that you can help.Jimmy Buffett and the Save the Manatee Club I have adopted a manatee, Ariel, for the past four years. Ariel lives at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park (HSWSP) in Homosassa, Florida. The park is a rehabilitation facility for manatees who are recovering from injuries before being released back into the wild. Five female manatees who cannot be released into the wild because of injuries or other life threatening reasons currently call HSWSP their home. ARIEL was just two weeks old when she was rescued with her mom Amanda. In July 2005, I was able to travel to Florida to meet Ariel!
While in Florida, I was fortunate enough to be able to swim with manatees in the wild.
