Eddie, sorry for the delay. Here is the review. Thank you again! December 8, 2000 By Shawn LeValley COHO/NOMS - 378-2770 499-8803 Eddie Paltrineri teaches light meters to Shawn's 3rd & 4th grade multiage class! Eddie did a great job of preparing for this lesson! It is in the middle of the circuits and pathways NSF curriculum that my class has been doing for the past four weeks. The kids are very excited about the unit and Eddie carried them forward another step to understanding and defining their discoveries. Eddie was clear about the objective of this lesson. He took the prescribed curriculum a step further by creating materials that enhanced the learning/discovery of this lesson. He did a wonderful job with the anticipatory set, tying the lesson to things that my students have already learned. The class was attentive to Eddie's direct teaching. He gave clear instructions and checked in with the class before sending them on their way. He handed out materials in a timely & efficient manner. Eddie's call back to attention routine of counting down was very effective as well. The students quieted right down to hear his next set of instructions. As the class worked, Eddie moved through the groups asking questions to help them think deeper about the light meters. The students responded well to Eddie's demeanor. He was an absolute natural with the class (both with students and the parent volunteers). Eddie wrapped up the lesson with an assignment. The kids loved taking this activity home to share with their families. They also enjoyed sharing their home exploration with the class. After the lesson Eddie and I discussed the challenge of giving too much information too soon, not enough information soon enough, directions surrounding materials and the timing of students finishing the lesson. I thought he had beautiful timing during this lesson. Eddie has a kind, natural response to children and their questions. He dealt with a wide range of energy levels in this class in a very calm, positive way. I enjoyed having him in my class. I hope he will consider our class for future assignments, as he is welcome anytime!
