Greetings! 1-10-02 Thank you for visiting Middle School Language Arts! I want to update you on the new way I will be taking AR grades for 2nd quarter. I have taken each child's AR point goal for the quarter and divided it into thirds. I have developed three AR target dates by which each child will need to meet 1/3 of their AR quarter goal. These three grades will be worth a quiz grade and the final AR test grade at the end of the quarter will still apply. Call me at the school if you have any questions regarding this system. I can't stress enough the importance of reading to both the parents and children. Studies have shown that to become a better reader, it is imperative that you READ! Practice! Practice! Practice! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas break! Eighth Grade: We are still working on our Across Five Aprils novel as the break slowed us down a bit. We will have an assignment every single night from the packet. Make sure you are writing these down and completing them on time! Seventh Grade: We are beginning a verb unit. On Thursday, January 10, 2002, they will be working on p. 119 A&B. They will also be working on reading p. 138-40 and answering question #3 on p. 141. This assignment is due Friday. Sixth Grade: The Sixth Grade class is wrapping up their poetry unit (finally). There will be a few more smaller assignments this week and next before we begin our LARGE Poetry Booklet assignment. I will put the requirements and rubrics on the website to refer to. Enjoy! Also, check out the wonderful poetry quiz I have created for you. Don't forget! Every Friday is free reading of our AR books! Bring a LITTLE pillow to relax and read! Mrs. Simmons
