Dupo Jr. High School 7th grade science teacher
Hi, My name is Mrs. Kautzer and I would like to welcome you to my webpage. Each day I will post my assignments on the parent portal page on the school website. I will have links to vocabulary and science related games that you may play to improve your science knowledge on my website. I will also include a link to our school calendar to show when we are off school, including early out days. The School Notes link will give you access to the notes we took in class. Parents, It is my goal to work with your child to succeed at the highest level possible. I also hope to create a fun science experience for your child. My expectations for your child are high. RESPECT in the classroom is my top priority. By respecting classmates and myself the flow of the classroom enables all students to learn in an engaging environment. Students are expected to stay current with all homework assignments or lunch detentions may be given or lab time lost. I DO NOT ACCEPT LATE WORK!!!!! Student homework is given 1-2 times a week in my class. Students will also be responsible for in class assignments - students must use their time in class wisely!! Your child will have one independent project to complete each quarter. The projects will be worked on outside of class. I also update my homework assignments each day on the parent portal. Welcome to 2nd semester! This semester we will be studying ecosystems, electricity, cells and genetics. Students will have cell projects as well as a smaller ecosystem project. They will also be working on a solar system review packet to refresh these ideas for ISAT testing. ISAT tests will be held February 28 - March 11th. Remember there will be a comprehensive final exam covering 200 vocabulary words in May. . CLASSROOM RULES PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING RULES APPLY AT ALL TIMES IN MY CLASSROOM. RESPECT FOR OTHERS! RESPECT FOR PROPERTY! RESPECT FOR YOURSELF! COOPERATION!!!!!!!!!! HONESTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY NO HORSEPLAY DURING LABS! IF YOU ARE ASSIGNED WORK TURN IT IN!!! ORGANIZATION, ORGANIZATION ORGANIZATION!! Please note I just realized that I can send a notification when I update my school notes. If you would like to be notified of the updates to the current class notes - please click on school notes at the end of my webpage it will connect you to school notes. You can then select notify me and by filling out your email address you will get them most current updates on my class notes - this may come in handy. Please click on the school notes link below - the latest notes can be found here. This year I did get a donation of a current classroom set of science books for the topics that I teach. Since I only have a classroom set I do not issue textbooks. For this reason it is important to help your child keep organized in science so he has all the materials he needs to be successful. All my tests are based on the notes your student has in his/her science folder. I have attached all copies of vocab words on my website so students may find the definitions. I highly recommend the students make flash cards for all the words by looking over old notes, quizzes, crossword puzzles or by printing out the notes online. I will be checking daily for science binders, agendas, and pencils. Students are also required to do in class activities. I use this webpage to give you a general idea of what we are covering in class and when we have important tests or projects due. I will also continue to link you to the schoolnotes page where you can find the latest class notes. Students will still be able to log onto my website to look at vocabulary and play games to help them practice for the test. Isats are over and so begins 4th quarter! We are changing things up this quarter in science class we will be moving to a more student centered approach to learning science. Students will be helping each other and providing scaffolding to build on so we can increase the numbers of students succeeding. Please have you r child bring a composition notebook in by Monday, March 21st. These are the notebboks with the marbled front with the pages sewn in. We are going to start using science notebooks instead of folders. We will be starting our unit on mitosis the week of March 21st and I will have links to the mitosis vocab as well as the vocab for the vocabulary quizzes that will get us ready for the final exam! It was good to see so many parents at the conferences. PLEASE NOTE AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR THE FINAL EXAM CONSISTS OF 200 VOCABULARY WORDS - CUMMULATIVE FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. Hort.
