    New Announcements as of 5/10/08

  • May 15th - meetings before or after school, 7am and 1:55pm.
  • We'll be doing a basket at the after school meeting. Bring items for the basket if you need a service hour. Plan to stay and put the basket together if you need a committee. We'll go with a Fiesta theme again so raid the Latino section of your local grocery store.
  • We will have elections at this meeting and seniors will need to pay for cords. If you have served as an officer, you have the option of buying a stole instead.
  • May 22nd – The day after SOL’s! What better time to have our Spring Fiesta? We’ll announce the officers for 2008-2009 at this meeting.

Membership Qualifications:
Student must
  • Have been enrolled at GHS for one full semester prior to applying.
  • Have maintained a 3.5 average in Spanish for at least three semesters.
  • Be a sophomore or above.
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or above in all other subjects during the prior semester.
  • Indicate high standards of citizenship and character in all aspects of school life.
  • Desire to perfect one’s knowledge of the Spanish language and culture, and help others appreciate the benefits of learning a second language.
Responsibilities of members:
  • Attendance: All members are expected to be actively involved in all monthly meetings and activities. If you cannot attend a meeting, it is your responsibility to leave a written explanation and pick up an agenda.
  • Dues: The membership dues in the amount of $15 cover both the National Organization and the Chapter Organization. This is due at the time of application and will be refunded in the event that membership is denied. Make checks payable to GHS.
  • Committees: Every member must serve on at least two committees. Committee sign-ups will be posted on the SHH board. Be sure to keep track of dates the committees will meet. If you cannot make a committee meeting, it is your responsibility to leave a written explanation and contact the head of the committee.
  • Community Service: All GHS honor organizations must complete community service hours. Members of SHH must have at least 10 hours recorded. Hours for other honor organizations can apply toward your SHH service hours, but at least five hours must be earned through SHH sponsored activities. Members initiated in spring semester are required to fulfill half of the yearly requirements.
  • Academic requirements: Maintain a B average in Spanish each semester.
