While students are engaged in oral and written communication, errors will occur. This is a natural process in adquiring a second language. In this setting, I expect students to try their best to communicate in the target language (Spanish). They will have an opportunity to self correct their errors, orally and in writing as a learning process. I will give grammar explanations (in ENGLISH) and exercises to compare and contrast the use of Spanish language in comparison with the English language, and to gain a better working understanding of Spanish language structures. Students will take quizzes and tests to demonstrate that they can manipulate Spanish language structures, they can understand Spanish vocabulary, and that they can engage in communicative activities in Spanish, orally and in writing. As explained in the syllabus, students are responsible to learn the classroom commands in Spanish, and to follow them when instructed to do so. Next objective: - TLW will ask "formulaic" questions in Spanish during class time, such as "¿Puedo beber agua?" (May I go to the restroom?), "Puedo ir al baño?" (May I go to the restroom), etc. - TLW ask for clarification or modification, using phrases in Spanish such as "Repita, por favor" (Repeat, please!), "Más despacio, por favor" (Slowly please).
