- When children use the three ways to read a book: reading the pictures, reading the words, and retelling the story, they become independent readers for exptended periods of time. (G. Boushey and J. Moser, 2006)
- To improve a child's reading comprehension, have him/her focus on these areas: make connections, predict/infer, ask questions, monitor for difficult words and ideas, and summarize.
-
- The Internet is filled with fun ways for children to build their vocabulary. Here are a few sites that will get your youngsters excited about learning. (Remember to monitor your children's time on the Inernet and review each site to determine its appropriateness.)

Dear parents,
I want to thank everyone for a very wonderful parent-teacher conference week. Our dialogue is on-going, and we will be in contact on a regular basis about your child's progress. Please remember, if you ever need to contact me about anything, my door is always open!
These next two weeks we are back on a regular schedule. Yeah! In social studies, children are becoming more familiar with our world. They have been learning about the continents and oceans around the world, and this week we will explore the past, present, and future. I will also be asking children to share about their ancestors and where their families came from. This will tie nicely into our annual multicultural feast on Thanksgiving week. More about this to follow........
This coming Sunday, November 16th, there is a school sponsored mass, followed by our Open House. This is a great opportunity to refer families who might be interested in enrolling their child at St. Lawrence, or for you to "check-out" the class coming up for your student.
The service project for the month of November is the Thanksgiving food collection. Each class will be assigned a specific food item to bring in, and brought in by a certain date. Please continue to check the St. Lawrence website for updated information about this.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Humphries
