WHAT'S YOUR SCREEN TIME?
April 11-15 is St. Lawrence Screen Awareness Week. We are taking time to notice how much time we spend on screens. There is nothing wrong with watching TV, playing video games or surfing the web. It's just that restricting ourselves to only those activities in our free time cuts out some other things that are fun and help us stay active, use our brains, and spend time with family and friends. So think about where you can make a change, and try something different. There are lots of good ideas at the Family Fun Night, April 12 from 6:00-7:30pm.

What Too Much Screen Time Looks Like

Most of us are spending more and more time with screens--TV, computers, cell phones and technical gadgets of all kinds. Although the screens are a great source of entertainment and a major convenience in our busy lives, they also can have a negative impact that we don't always notice:
More than ten hours a week on screens will make school work suffer;
Our vocabulary is much more limited;
We eat more and at the same time move less;
We interact less with people, possibly causing social problems;
We lose out on learning and developing other fun activities;
We learn less about people and the world.

Library Questions

When is the library open?

The library is open for Pre-k to 5 for once a week visits during the day. K to 5 may check out books at that time.
Grades 4&5 can come to the library at lunch on Mondays and Fridays.
Middle School can come at lunch every day but Tuesday, and they can check out books then.

How long can I keep a book?

Books can be kept for two weeks, or longer for book reports.

What if I lose a book?

You will have to replace it eventually. Mrs. Hunter will let you know how much it is. If you find it you will get your money back.

What if someone took it or borrowed it?

If the book is checked out in your name, you have to pay for it. Do not lend your library book to others.

If a book is late is there a fine?

No, but do try to return the books on time so others can enjoy them, too.
