Welcome back to school; 7th/8th GRADE

FOR THIS COMBINATION CLASS: TEXTBOOK WILL COVER , PHYSICAL SCIENCE AND LIFE SCIENCE. ALL STANDARDS FOR 7TH GRADE AND 8TH WILL BE COVERED.

My plan is for every 8th Grade student to go into Biology either in their Freshman year or Sophmore year. Life Science and Biology will be on the High School Star Test. The content are from 5th, 8th and 10th Grade. SAT and ACT contents are almost the same. Every test is a little different.

They should not take General or Earth Science as it does not count for College Academic Requirements!!!

Homework and Classwork Policy:
Dear  Students and Parents,

Homework has a definite place in the educational process.  It is an extension of the learning experiences children have during the instructional day.  Homework is designed to aid the student in achieving classroom and school goals, and should not be used to punish or keep a student busy.  Homework will be approximately given for science about once a week and should take no longer than 30 minutes.

I WILL NOT BE GIVING HOMEWORK ON A WEEKLY BASIS. IT WILL DEPEND ON WHERE WE ARE IN THE TEXT BOOK. I PLAN ON HOMEWORK IN 3RD QUARTER FOR SCIENCE FAIR.

The homework or make up classwork, I will give will fit one of these four categories:

Remedial Drill - This is an extension of work that has been introduced in class.  This homework is an individualized drill activity designed to help strengthen the child's weak areas.
Research - This is work which involves the use of reference materials.  It is often given on an extended time basis.
Unfinished Work - This is work that is not completed in class and is within the student's capability to finish at home.
Review - Students should spend some time at home studying and preparing for tests.

Classwork/Homework When Student Misses School:

If your child is ill, but able to do homework I will be happy to make assignments that do not require teacher instruction.  Please call the school in advance to make these arrangements.  The work may be picked up after 2:00  p.m. in the school office, or your child may go online to my website, to get his/her daily assignments.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Ferguson
