Welcome to Study Skills! Homework: June 10 1. Go over Class Goals and Expectations, Class Participation, and the Homework Policy handouts with your parent(s). Ask them to sign the red sheet and return it to school tomorrow. 2. If you did not complete "Getting to Know You" and/or the "Study Skills Questionnaire" in the Introduction Packet, please do so for homework. The packet will be collected tomorrow. 3. There will be a quiz on Multiple Intelligences tomorrow. Study this section of the Brain packet. We will study a bit more before we take the quiz. 4. There will be a test on the complete Brain and Learning Packet on Wednesday. 5. Bring your supplies to class tomorrow (see list on the Course Goals and Expectations handout). It is very important to have your 3-inch 3-ring binder as I will be passing out more materials. 6. I am so proud of you for checking the website! Write "Howard Gardner" (remember...he is the researcher responsible for the theory of multiple intelligences) on the back of your signed parent form and you will earn 2 points of extra credit!! June 11 1. Finish any of the surveys that we worked on today in class (multiple intelligences, left-right dominance). 2. Read pages 15-21 in Learning to Learn (L2L). Complete the survey on pages 17-19. 3. The Brain and Learning test has been moved to Thursday. Start reviewing the material we have covered so far. Pay particular attention to information I asked you to highlight or write down. June 12 1. Teach your parent about the Information Processing Model. Have your parent complete the statement and return the signed sheet tomorrow. 2. Read and highlight pages 22-29 in L2L. Be sure to complete the survey on pages 23-25. 3. Complete the Learning Styles Survey I handed out in class today. Tabulate your score. 4. Review and study for the Brain and Learning Test tomorrow. Be sure to focus on the material I asked you to highlight. We will spend a short time reviewing tomorrow before we take the test. June 13 1. Read and highlight pages 33-83 in L2L. Remember to complete the survey on pages 36-38. 2. Complete the Motivation WS. 3. Look over and review the Learning Styles and Learning Attitude packet. We will be taking a test on this information tomorrow (we will be reviewing before the test). June 14 1. We will be taking a quiz on Learning Attitude on Monday. We will have time to review before taking the quiz. 2. No homework! Enjoy the weekend!!! June 17 1. Have your parent sign the Progress Report. Return to me tomorrow. 2. Interview two people for the Job Skills Survey (do only the front of this WS). 3. Interview your parent(s) for the Parent Homework Survey. 4. There will be a test on Time Management and Homework on Wednesday. Start reviewing the terms we have discussed in class. June 18 1. Study for the test tomorrow on Time Management and Homework. Make sure you review the study guide at the end of the packet. 2. If you did not sit down with your parent and discuss the Parent Homework Survey, please do this tonight and return to me tomorrow. June 19 1. We will have our Name Test tomorrow. 2. Complete the Parts of a Textbook packet. 3. Read and highlight pgs. 145-173 in L2L. June 20 1. Tomorrow we will have a test on Parts of a Textbook and SQ4R. We will review tomorrow morning before the test. Be sure you go over the the notes we took at the beginning of the SQ4R packet. 2. How does your Agenda look? Just asking....hint, hint. June 21 1. No homework...Enjoy the weekend! June 24 1. If your group did not complete the assigned classwork, please do so. You should have responses for the following worksheets: As You Like It!, I Hear You, and I Get It! 2. Return your progress report tomorrow with a parent's signature. June 26 1. Study the material we covered in the Listening Packet. Pay particular attention to information I asked you to highlight. 2. Review the material in the Taking Notes from Lectures Packet. We will finish this packet tomorrow. 3. There will be a Listening/Taking Notes from Lectures Partner Test tomorrow! June 27 1. Look over the following sections in L2L: Memory pages 177-197 and Test Taking pages 203-254. 2. Use your study guide and packets to review for the final exam. Your old tests are an excellent study resource. 3. Final Exam tomorrow....after we finish test taking skills and a period of review.
