Welcome to Study Skills! June 13 1. I am so proud of you for checking the website! Write "Howard Gardner" (remember...he is the reseacher responsible for the theory of multiple intelligences) on the back of your signed parent form and you will earn 3 points of extra credit!!! 2. Go over the Course Expectations, Homework Policy, and Class Participation handouts with your parent(s). The signed form is due tomorrow. 3. Bring in the supplies from the Course Expectations handout. Be sure to have your Three Ring Binder (two to three inch size is the best) and a set of eight dividers in class tomorrow. 4. Read/look over all material we covered on "The Brain." Pay particular attention to Multiple Intelligences. 5. Quiz on Multiple Intelligences tomorrow! We will study this a bit more before we take the quiz. June 14 1. If you still need to label the dividers for your binder the order should be: Homework, Class Info, Packets, Handouts, Tests/Quizzes, Returned Work, Binder/Agenda Checks, Paper 2. If you were not able to finish the reading that was assigned in class today, please do it for homework: The Brain and Learning Packet (Left/Right Brain Processing) and Learning to Learn (L2L) pages 16-21. Be sure to complete the assessment on pages 17-19. 3. Test on the Brain and Learning Packet on Thursday (review the whole packet, but pay particular attention to the information I asked you to highlight). 4. Bring Sleeping Freshment Never Lie book to class tomorrow. June 15 1. Teach the Information Processing Model to your parent. Return the signature sheet tomorrow. 2. Study for the test on the Brain and Learning Packet. Pay particular attention to the material I asked you to underline or highlight. 3. Be prepared for a "Pop Quiz" on Learning Styles...look over the "Style Quiz" we did today and the definitions we discussed in class. June 16 1. Complete the "Motivation" WS from your Learning Style and Learning Attitude packet in the binder. 2. There will be a test on Learning Styles and Learning Attitude tomorrow. Review the notes you took at the beginning of the packet, the three learning styles, and the notes you took about internal/external control and motivation. 3. If you did not finish the reading assignment from class today, please do so. You were to read L2L pages 28-29, and pages 33-43. June 17 1. If you did not complete the October Sky Analysis, please do so and turn in on Monday. 2. If you did not finish during class, read and highlight important info in L2L pages 44-60. 3. Look over your Agenda. 4. Have a totally fantastic weekend! On Monday we will begin Time Management!! June 20 1. If you did not finish during class, read and highlight important info in L2L pages 61-75. 2. With your parent, complete the "Parent Homework Survey" in your Time Management and Homework packet. Remember, you should do the writing, but the thoughts should come from your parent. June 21 1. Complete two Job Skills Survey inteviews using the worksheet from your binder. If you did not complete the back of that page - Job Skills/Homework Skills - in class, please do so. 2. Study for the Time Management and Homework Test tomorrow. Although you should concentrate on the study guide we completed in class today, it would be a good idea to look over the entire packet. 3. Don't forget to share your Progress Report with your parent. Ask your parent to sign the bottom and return to me tomorrow. June 22 School cancelled. June 23 No homework. June 24 1. In L2L, read pages 145-173. Highlight important information. 2. Review the material we have covered in SQ4R. We will continue working on this on Monday. 3. Have a great weekend! June 27 1. You were given a reading selection entitled, "Lasers." Using SQ4R, first circle everything you should survey in the reading selection. Then, take textbook notes. Make sure your notes are formated for the Cornell Method of Notetaking. 2. There will be a test (really more of a quiz) on the "Parts of a Textbook" and "SQ4R" tomorrow. To study for this test/quiz, use the "Matching" and "Multiple Choice" portions of the Parts of a Textbook pair quiz we took in class last week AND the "Components of SQ4R" notes we completed today. All information you should need will be on these. June 28 1. Tomorrow we will take on the Memory and Test Taking packets! In preparation, please read and highlight pages 177 to 254 in L2L. I do realize this is a great deal of material to cover but please try to look over as much as possible. 2. Study for the final exam on Friday!!
