Week of May 25, 2009
We are rapidly heading toward the end of the school year. This week we will complete our reading series. Please continue to encourage your child to complete homework and to do their best work until the end of the school year.
Please read and complete the form about our 2nd grade picnic and return it to school by June 5, 2009
Here is what we will be working on this week:
Reading: This week’s stories are Wicker School Takes Action (phonics story), City Green (main selection).
Comprehension skill: making judgments
Phonics: r-controlled vowels (ear, our), words ending in tion
Grammar/Writing: how to write a paragraph
Vocabulary
petunias, property, marigolds, cranky, zinnias, soil, reaction, mural, condition, empty, lease, scoured, grocery, petition, sprouting
Spelling- Spelling words for this week are:
earn, hour, learn, flour, heard, sour, already, piece, section, action, vacation, motion
Friday’s spelling test will include these 12 words and two review words from last week.
Math- We will continue our study of geometry this week.
Science- We will continue our study of animals. Students will be tested on this unit on Friday, 5/29
Homework-Homework is assigned Monday-Thursday.
Tuesday: Orally read, Wicker School Takes Action, Spelling- pick one, Math Sheet
Wednesday: Read 15 min., Spelling-pick one, Reading sheet
Thursday: Orally read, City Green, Spelling- written practice test, study vocabulary, Science- study for test
