Welcome to our class web page!

I hope that everyone had a long and enjoyable weekend!

We are now spelling RECESS in class.  The students hve earned the R and E.  Hopefully, they can complete this word soon and earn a free recess.

The students have been having a great time with their fifth grade reading buddies.  This past Friday, the students read their AR book to their buddies.  I feel that this program has provided many positive opportunities for our class!

This week in reading, we will be reading the stories, "Rose and Grandma Make the Sun Shine" and "Our Family Get Together."  I will be sending home the Family Times on Monday.  This letter contains supplemental reading activities that can be completed at home.  The high frequency words we will be working on this week are father, very, has, thank, and going.  We will be reviewing the long /o/ sound.  We are also focusing on the sh and wh sound this week. We will be reviewing plural nouns. We are also working on identifying main idea.

In social studies, we have been studying Italy.  So far, the students have learned about the flag, food, and some of the language.  This week, we will be focusing on Italy's celebrations and forms of art.

In math, we will continue our study of time.  The students are doing very well with this concept.  We will talk about digital time and the differences between A.M. and P.M.  Towards the end of the week, we will learn how to read the temperature on a thermometer.

In science, we will be starting a unit on frogs.  The students have been learning about different types of cycles.  We have studied the cycle of life, the seasons, the months, and the water cycle.  Now, we will observe the frog as it changes from a tadpole to its adult form.  Our tadpoles arrived last week and we are lucky to have the opportunity to watch them transform!

In writing, we are working on identifying the parts of speech.  The students should be able to isolate the noun, verb, and adjective in the sentences they write.

I hope you have a great week!  Thanks for all of your support!
