My web page consists of many great links which make up a good part of the surf culture and history. Surfing is an imporant part of culture in Hawaii, and California. Surf culture is the way we dress, talk, and live. It all started in the 1700s were polynesians would cut down trees and ride the waves. Capt. James Cook found hawaii in 1778, on there way to tahitii. They would sometimes go 20 or 30 people to the shore, & lay themselves flat upon an oval piece of wood about their Size and weight and try to keep their bodies on top of the makeshift boards. In 1779, riding waves lying down or standing on long, hardwood surfboards was an important part of Hawaiian culture.It has spread throughout the country is is still live in deep southern parts of California and Hawaii.
