The IB exam is going to be on Wednesday, February 8th.
There is a sign-up sheet on my office door (room 632).
The exam is going to be explained in detail in class.
Here is a quick summary of what to expect.
The individual oral exam is composed of 3 parts:
Part 1 – Oral presentation of an authentic French document selected by the student
• Students will use a literary text or excerpt, a song, a television program, a photo, an image, an object, a magazine or newspaper article as a starting point for their presentation. The document should be authentically French.
• Students will prepare their presentations ahead of time.
• Presentation should be concise.
• Students may bring notes (no more than 10 lines) but may not read the notes.
• Presentation should not be memorized or recited.
• Students should: 1) describe the document; 2) explain why the document was chosen; and 3) analyze the document.
• Presentation will not be interrupted by the teacher.
• Presentation will last 3 to 4 minutes.
Part 2 – Discussion on student’s presentation
• Teacher will ask questions about the presentation.
• Students should be prepared to: 1) show a clear understanding of the document and topic; 2) argue and defend their ideas.
• Discussion will last 3 to 4 minutes.
Part 3 – General discussion on topics unrelated to the presentation
• Teacher will ask questions about the students’ interests as well as a variety of social and cultural topics (education, the professional world, health, current events, the environment, etc. - mainly topics discussed in class).
• Students are expected to show they can conduct a meaningful, coherent conversation in French beyond the topic(s) addressed in their presentations.
• General discussion will last 3 to 4 minutes.
