Quiz dates:
Each Thursday or Friday expect a vocabulary quiz.
Every other week expect either a dictée quiz (featuring spelling) or a quiz featuring spoken French.  This is in addition to the vocabulary quiz.

Skills to be learned:
Listening:
a) to the teacher and also giving the same respectful attention to your classmates
b) to francophone literature being read aloud in class
You will be held accountable for all materials being read to you in French and all mention of current events and other class discussions.
Speaking:
a) reading aloud from the text or other distributed materials
b) speaking accurate French in phrases, sentences, and expressions that you have learned in the class. 
c)speaking accurate French in reading, reciting, and presenting personally created French materials.
d) frequently being called upon for an impromptu response - en français
Writing:
a) answers to the textbook and workbook exercises
b) formulating clear, concise, proper French sentences
c) word, phrase, and short sentence recognition and response (dictées)
d) corresponding with French e-pals
Listening:
a) to short assigned textbook selections
b) to French literature at the appropriate grade level
c) letters from penpals
d) silently and then orally responding with increasingly accurate French pronunciation
Memorization:
a) assigned poetry selections (Expect a test grade.)
b) assigned songs
c) the American pledge of allegiance (en français)
d) La Marseillaise (en français)


Supplies needed:
composition book
pencil and pens (EVERY DAY brought to class)
colored pencils and one set of Sharpies of various colors
French dictionary 
2 full-sized poster boards (any color)

Parent visit and conversations are encouraged.  When you have questioned that would best be answered face to face, please call the school office to request an appointment with Mrs. Larson.  Mention both the scholar's name and your relationship to the scholar.

Projects
The students will create one multi-media presentation for children.  This will be in French with new French phrases and vocabulary.  It will be include at least 25 sentences and at least 10 full-pages illustrations.  It will be centered around one of the students in the class whom the scholar has interviewed.
The students will write and present one 6 minute skit en français.  It will be graded on both written and spoken French and will incorporate both simple costumes and simple props. The skit will be developed using a specific set of new vocabulary assigned by the teacher.
The final exam will be project-based.  Each scholar will receive a handout with explicit directions for completion.

GRADING SCALE
That used throughout Early College High School

Respect and consideration are a must in the language class.
Detentions will be administered after a scholar was been warned twice and continues to disrupt the class.
