Hello and Welcome!
Here are some of the things we will be covering during the week of February 4 - 8 in our class...
SPELLING
Unit 23 - Students will have a dictation test on Thursday and word test on Friday.
Homework:
Monday - Students will write a paragraph in cursive using 10 spelling words.
LANGUAGE
Students will continue working on a how-to paper as well as practicing Daily Edit. We will be publishing our how-to papers in the computer lab. Students will also review paragraph structure (topic sentence and supporting details).
Homework:
READING
We have finished reading the novel, Ramona Quimby, Age 8, by Beverly Cleary. Ask your child how they did on the AR test. Students will be reviewing sequencing and main idea as well.

Tuesday - Take home reader
MATH
Students will be introduced to multiplication facts by 6. Fact cards for the 6's will go home on Monday. Students need to practice these every night. Please help your child review the 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, 9's, 10's and 11's as well.
In class, students will be reviewing the concepts of area and perimeter.
Homework:
Monday - Study multiplication facts (Some students need to retest over the 4's and 9's)
Thursday P148 (student will need a ruler)
Study the terms for plane shapes and solid shapes. Students need to know how many corners and edges these shapes have. These will be tested.
Study multiplication facts of 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, 9's 10's and 11's. 6x's will be tested on Friday. Don't forget to also review addition facts and subtraction facts.
Superstars Math is due on Friday.
SOCIAL STUDIES
This week students will learn important facts about the history of our country. We will specifically look at Ben Franklin, George Washington, Pierre L'Enfant, and Benjamin Banneker.
Homework:
Study US Government Chart (probably will go home on Wednesday)
OTHER NEWS:
**Thanks to Mrs. Coggins for completing Junior Great Books with half of our class. Be sure and ask your students about it as they have really enjoyed it.
**Please check Time Trackers on a daily basis. **Signature is needed in the Time Tracker and on the Expectation Card on Tuesday nights.
**PTA papers go home on Mondays, and graded papers will go home on Tuesday.
**Thanks to the many parent who have come in to help in class, read stories to us, or have sent in needed items to our classroom.
