Welcome to Aileen's Global Warming Information Site!

You may not know very much about this mysterious "Global Warming". However, I hope that my site may help you in whatever you may want to know about it. This site is intended to give people a general point of view on what's going on with this whole affair. Thank you for choosing this site to be informed by!

What is Global Warming? Well, it's been called many things by critics and activists, but to put it plainly, it's the rise in the Earth's temperature. This rise is cause by many things, and it isn't safe for the environment... or the Earth, really. Some may say it's a hoax, but they only say that because it's the easy thing to say.

What causes Global Warming? Many people say that humans are the bad guys and we cause it all and so on, and they're right. But we're not alone in the blame corner; it's caused by many different things. Yet us polluting the place like nobody's business is the bigggest factor, and it shows. Take a look around you, and you probably see pollution. Driving in your car, burning coal, throwing things in the garbage, cows, cutting down trees, and so on. You know it when you see it. These may be necessary or bound to happen, but they all contribute to increased co2, and that's what's destroying our Earth. Other things contribute, also. Oil spills, nuclear and toxic waste spills, and such kills lots of plants and animals, and destroy habitats. In short, something needs to be done.

What's the process? Yes, Global Warming occurs in a process. Some people are surprised to hear that. First, we fill the air with co2s. The co2s trap ultraviolet rays that are coming from the sun. The extra rays heat up the Earth. Then it affects the Earth in a variety of ways. Then the majority of mankind denies every word of it.

What has already happened, and how did I miss it?! To answer how you missed it, you don't watch the news, or you just didn't know it was caused by Global Warming. Global Warming has already had huge affects that people just ignore, when they are quite tragic. Scientists believe that natural disasters, such as the Tsunami in Thailand, increased tornadoes, hurricane Katrina, frequent earthquakes and heat waves, were definately cause by Global Warming. A few other disasters for you;

-In the Eastern US in July 1999 there was a heatwave where over 250 people died of a heat stroke. the Southern and Central plains broke a temperature record with 119 degrees F.

-The Chesapeake also had a recent marsh loss that were taken over by rising sea levels due to the ocean expansion.

-In areas such as Mexico, the Caribbean, Bahamas, the Florida Keys, and right off the coasts of Bermuda there have been dramatic coral bleaching that leaves many organisms dead and without habitat.

-There have also been some increases in wildfires in the Southwest. I actually went to California a couple of years ago, and near Death Valley there were some fires that stopped traffic. And when you have no AC and have to keep the windows up to prevent suffocating from the smoke... well, it's not comfortable.

How is it affecting animals? This is a very melancholy question, and it makes me sad to answer it. Many animals are be driven out of their habitats, such as polar bears. Their homes are melting by the minute, and without a solid ground, they drown in the ocean. It also makes it harder for them to find food, since they have go farther to find it. Malnutrition sets in, and they become an unhealthy and endangered species. Fish also have to swim to exotic places in the ocean where the water is cooler, because the trapped solar radiation is heating up the ocean. It's very tragic, and something should be done, not just by one, but by all.

Is it stoppable? Of course! That doesn't mean that all mankind will step up to the plate. With the right tactics (recycling and so on) it can be stopped. But it's really up to you.

What can be done to prevent further damage? The answers to this question vary from here to Peru. But I am going to list some of them off for you so that you can "Go Green!"

-Recycle! You can separate your trash into plastics, glasses, papers, cardboards, cans, metals, and so on. Practicing this will help to make future land fills less full, and give resources back to the companies from whence it came.

-Do compost. You can take scrap food or anything that will compost. If you live near a wooded area, or somewhere that it wouldn't be any trouble to let the leftover food sit, try it out! It doesn't smell that badly, either. I would know because I have one.

-Save gas! When you have to go somewhere that is near your house, get some exercise and walk or ride a bike! If it's far away, like across town, take a mass transit such as a bus, trolly, cab, train, or on an elephant's back. Not only does this save money, it saves the Earth! that way you can say you did your good deed for the day.

-When you wash laundry or the dishes, only do it when it is a full load. You can also just not dry them with the machine, and let them air dry! This would save on lots of energy and your electric bill!

-When your lightbulb burns out and you go to the store to buy a new one, buy an energy-efficient compact flourescent lightbulb (isn't that a mouthfull!). They last up to ten times longer, and burn a lot brighter with less heat.

-If you or somebody that you know is about to trade in their car or simply purchase a new one, encourage them to buy a hybrid, electric, or other alternative energy-using vehicle. You can save 2,500 lbs of co2 a year if your car gets 10 mpg more than your old one.

I could go on forever talking about Global Warming, but I'm just providing a little preview. However, I hope that this page has answered a couple of your questions and made you want to learn more about Global Warming, and get active! Global Warming is real, and something does need to be done about it. So why don't you do something?
