Welcome to third grade!

Remember to study for your next spelling test.

Spelling lists vary among students, so it is important to help your child keep

the list in his or her binder.

Help your child work with these words each evening by reading,

sorting, writing, and using them in sentences.

Please make sure your third grader knows what each word means,

especially if they are working on sorts in D and sorts in E!

Our Story for the Week: "Wild Shots, They're My Life"

Can you identify the genre of the story?

Name the characters, setting, plot, and resolution of the story.

What is the author's purpose? (HINT: Think PIE!!!)

Current Reading Strategies: Predicting and Summarizing

Don't forget to "be slick and predict!"

"Be wise and summarize!"

Word of the Week (WOW): biography

the written story of someone's life (bio = life; graph = write)

Congratulations to the most courteous third graders, Ezelia, Abby,

and Jason!!!

Current read alouds: Nate the Great and the Snowy Trail; Flat Stanley; Because of Winn-Dixie

Accelerated Reader: Don't forget to read each night; your goal is based on

your reading at school and your nightly reading. Let's go for

100% for all of third grade! Last day of the nine weeks is Wed., Oct. 21!
